Playing Captain America was “intimidating and overwhelming” at first Marvel’s Chris Evans admits
Marvel’s Chris Evans has appeared in so many MCU movies. 11 to be precise – as original Avenger Captain America. That he feels like a safe pair of hands for the franchise.
But the actor has revealed that he didn’t see things that way. When he first took on the role as he called becoming Cap back in 2011’s. The First Avenger “intimidating and overwhelming”.
During a chat with his fellow Marvel star Paul Rudd. Who plays Scott Lang / Ant-Man. As part of Variety‘s Actors on Actors series. Evans admitted that being such a big part of the MCU was scary. But added that he soon realised he was “in good hands” at Marvel.
“But very quickly, you know what it’s like working at Marvel, they make you feel so comfortable. And it feels like such a group effort, you know that every decision is going to kind of be vetted over endlessly. It’s a real landscape of competing ideas and the best idea wins and that’s how they end up with so many good movies.
“So very quickly you kind of put down your fear and just kind of recline a little bit and recognise that you’re in good hands.”
The actor also admitted that playing a character as admirable as Steve Rogers can be difficult as you can feel yourself “falling short”, saying that “the bar is set impossibly high”.
