TTAG Appluads Gov’t For Payment Of Teacher Trainee Allowances
The Association in a press release dated July 17, 2020, copied to Georgeweb.org said: “All teacher trainees across all the 46 public college of Education were plunged into a state of delight. With the reason being that the much-anticipated heart soothing SMS alert beamed on their mobile phones”.
“with a grateful heart. We the leadership of Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) wishes to extend our recondite gratitude to the government and all stakeholders. Through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) for the payment of teacher trainees allowances since 2017 after its restoration”.
The TTAG admitted that teacher trainees allowances have been enormously helpful to on in diverse ways and we greatly appreciate the government’s unflinching commitment to its payment.
Therefore, “We wish to also commend the management of Students Loan Trust Fund (STLF) for their swift response to our call and anticipates payment 35 scheduled for the remaining months of the semester; July and August”, it added.
The leader of the Trainee Teachers Association of Ghana (TTAG) also thank all trainees across the country for the patience and cooperation. Urging the members of TTAG and the general public to be mindful of coronavirus. And strictly adhere observe the precautionary measures. Including wearing face masks, regular handwashing with soap under running water among others.
However, the Minister for Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh. Responding to TTAG on their congratulatory message to President Akufo-Addo’s government said. “We will continue to keep faith with our trainees and endeavour to prepare them to play frontline roles. Which will be in the delivery of quality learning outcomes in this country”.
Also, According to the Education Minister. The allowance has always been an integral part of the training of our teachers at the Colleges of Education. Prior to the 2016 elections, the NPP promised to restore it if voted into office. Following its unfortunate cancellation by the then incumbent President John Mahama government. After being voted into office the NPP government kept its promise and restored the allowance.
“We believe in the teacher as central to our education reforms. And this has reflected in the various reforms in teacher training. That we have rolled out since taking office. We will continue to keep faith with our trainees and endeavour to prepare them to play frontline roles. Also this will be in the delivery of quality learning outcomes in this country”, NAPO added.
