Free Tertiary Education Is Part Of Our Manifesto – Onasis Rosely Kobby
As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised Ghanaians Free SHS. The John Dramani Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hinted to introduce free tertiary education. Which will be in their next tenure of office.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications member, Onasis Rosely Kobby. In an interview with the Kumasi based Hello 101.5 FM disclosed that. Free tertiary education promise is among others in the NDC’s yet to release manifesto.
The spokesperson hinted this while wishing the prospective 2020 WASSCE candidates the best of luck. As they prepare to sit for their examination scheduled for August 3, 2020.
“I want to use this chance to encourage all the WASSCE candidate, I send God’s blessings upon them,” Rosely Kobby wished.
“They got to pass so as that they can vote for John Mahama in order for them to attend university for free of charge , as Mahama has promised.” the spokesperson hinted.
Onasis Rosely Kobby when asked if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said to make tertiary education free replied: “Don’t worry, our manifesto will be out.”
Meanwhile, the former Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa earlier this week took to social media to make posts that indicated that despite the government’s claims of increasing enrolment through Free SHS, the amount of scholars who have sat for the WASSCE during the tenure of former President John Mahama far exceeds the amount of scholars beginning because the first graduates from the Free SHS programme.
“Unimpeachable statistics from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) reveal that in 2012, a complete of 174,461 candidates sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This figure impressively shot up during the tenure of President John Mahama to 274,262 candidates who sat for the 2016 WASSCE. This represents an actual increment of a staggering 99,801. That is by some 57.2% over the period.”
“Therefore, in four years – President Mahama increased WASSCE candidates by 99,801 while President Akufo-Addo has increased an equivalent by only 39,575,” he added.
