Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang assures to rebuild the Sekondi Central Market
Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured the chiefs of Sekondi within the Western region that subsequent NDC administration will rebuild the Sekondi Central Market to reinforce economic activities within the area.
In addition, she said the Sekondi-Takoradi Cultural Centre would be renovated, while roads within the city would be upgraded in line with the NDC’s infrastructure development plan.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang gave the reassurance during an interaction with the members of the Sekondi Traditional Council today as a part of her campaign tour of the Western region.
Responding to variety of requests by the chiefs, the campaigner explained that the upgrading of the Sekondi Central Market and roads in Sekondi-Takoradi has been catered for within the party’s manifesto. She added that those projects would be undertaken with funding from the party’s 10billion dollar “Big Push” for infrastructure development when it wins powers.
“When we promise, we deliver,” she said, and cited many manifesto promises the previous NDC administration fulfilled within the region.
Touching on an invitation for more jobs for the youth within the area, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the Technical and vocational training and Training (TVET) would be prioritised within the region. this may to enable more children within the region to be technical equipped to access industrial jobs, especially within the oil and gas, and food processing sectors.
Regarding unpaid compensation for lands taken by the State during the Kufuor-led government for projects, the campaigner promised that the concerns of the chiefs thereon matter would be effectively addressed when the NDC returns to power.
Nana Barima Ekow Gyesa II, acting President of the Sekondi Traditional Council, welcoming the campaigner earlier, expressed disappointment that although this government promised to deal with their concerns regarding the compensation for lands, job creation and therefore the Sekondi market upgrade, none had been fulfilled.
He believed that since development has got to be beneficial to the people, the progress of the oil and gas sector must reflect within the wellbeing of the people, particularly the youth within the region.
“We are optimistic that you simply will help to deal with our needs once you win power,” he told the campaigner .

I am a gospel politician – Pastor Joe Beecham speaks on political ambition
Renowned gospel musician, Pastor Joe Beecham, has said that he’s already an official but describes himself as a gospel politician.
Asked on Joy FM’s ‘Joy Time In His Presence’ if he will enter active politics if he feels the necessity to, Pastor Beecham stressed he doesn’t have a political ambition.
However, he believes if the will comes from God, he’s sure that his people won’t disappoint him.
“I don’t have a political ambition but i’m a gospel politician and blessing lives with what God has given me.
“One day if the desire comes strongly from God, I’m sure that the voters will vote for me for them to possess a really calm and funky Member of Parliament (MP) who won’t offer you troubles,” he said.
He added jokingly: “I am sure that if I become an MP, the people will do things on behalf of me instead of me doing things for them.”
