Earlier this week, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh attended the 2020 Ghana Teacher Prize event at the New Examination Hall of the University of Cape Coast. This is the third version after a rebrand of the Best Teacher Awards which is now internationally standardized.
In his address, He brought out the reforms they have pursued in strengthening the teacher profession to make it more relevant and responsive to their needs as a nation, and referred specifically to reforms in teacher education and professionalization, among others.
He further stated that they can never repay the debt they owe to our teachers, but they have a duty to try to make life better for them. Pursuant to this, He announced the signing, in August 2020, of a Collective Agreement between teachers, represented by the teacher unions, and the Government, which guarantees their Conditions of Service.
Included in this are the following allowances;
• Vehicle Maintenance Allowance
• Kilometric Allowance
• Night Allowance

He is proud to serve as Education Minister to a President who is determined to do just that. The Presidents passion, not just for education, but for the teachers who are central to any reforms we pursue is uncontested. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh salutes all teachers and the sacrifices they make .
