The National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) Mr Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah has said the Republic of Ghana is currently the country leading in private education in Africa after Uganda.
Speaking in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, Mr Gyetuah said there are more than 22,000 registered pre-tertiary private schools in the country citing that “those that are not yet registered with the Registrar General Department will shot the number to over 30,000 pre-tertiary private schools.”
The pre-tertiary private schools he said have been categorized into three which are; low fee-paying schools, mission and affiliate schools and elite schools.
“So Uganda was the leading country in private education in Africa but as we speak now the country that is leading private education in Africa is Ghana,” the GNACOPS official told the host of ‘Ghana Se Sen’ show Doe Lawson.
Commenting on how pre-tertiary private schools are helping Ghana’s education sector, the Executive Director said “2018/2019 EMIS data indicated pre-tertiary private schools contributes 49% of infrastructure with 33% enrollment”
