GES To Punish Heads of SHSs Collecting PTA Dues

Ghana’s Education Service (GES) has said it will at least transfer any headmaster or headmistress of a Senior High School (SHS) in the country reported to extorting monies describe as PTA dues from prospective students.

Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa speaking on behalf of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh urged parents to report such heads of schools to his outfit for action to be taken.

“For the PTA dues, we have not said parents should not pay but what we are saying is there shouldn’t be any fixed amount to be paid to the extent that students who owe will be sacked from the classroom,” the GES staff stated.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) continued that “students are not part of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) so if a student parent has not paid the dues you don’t have to sack the child from the classroom.”

According to him, any head of Senior High School (SHS) reported to be guilty of taking such Parent Teacher Association dues from students will be transferred to a far place where service is needed to serve the country.
