MTN Ghana CEO lauds government’s decision to re-register SIM cards
Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr. Selorm Adadevoh has lauded the government for its decision to re-register SIM cards in the country.
Speaking to the media at MTN Ghana’s 3rd annual meeting after being listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, he was hopeful that the move will, as indicated by the Vice-President of the Republic, Dr. Bawumia, curb activities such as mobile money and SIM box fraud.
Mr. Adedevoh has described the move as a positive one.
“I believe the initiative to re-register sims is a positive one for the industry. It will allow us to have single reference points to every sim card and allows us to coordinate industry-specific actions. It will no doubt have a huge implication on how we manage fraud and how we detect fraudulent activity tieing them down to one specific ID numbers. And we support this initiative,” he said.
He said that MTN Ghana was already taking steps in fighting mobile money fraud.
He disclosed that they had already set up a system that enables them to identify devices that have been engaged in mobile money fraud across all networks.
“Most recently, we had a partnership as an industry body where we have implemented something called the IMAI blocking which is essentially looking at devices that have been engaged in fraudulent activities and blocking those devices across all networks to increase the barriers for committing fraud and replacing sim cards within phones,” Selorm Adadevoh explained.
