The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Mr Kofi Asare following the impending 2021 WASSCE for School candidates has advised parents not to purchase a smartphone for their wards preparing to sit for the examination.
Kofi Asare in a social media post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh said final year students during this time take advantage to force their parents to get them a phone in other for them to hunt for what he described as ‘Apor’
“Is an SHS 3 student now asking for a phone? As 2021 WASSCE beckons, for some, it’s time to plug into social media for apo hunting. I’ve told my parents not to buy it,” the Education economist stated.
The policy analyst added that “This has been the trend for over a decade. Corruption seems to be the only legacy we are bequeathing unto the next generation. We teach our kids to be corrupt and blame the government.”
Meanwhile, Education Think Tank – Africa Education Watch in a recent 2020 WASSCE report has urged the Management of the Ghana Education Service to reinforce the ban on the use of mobile phones by students in schools.
According to the Watch, banning the use of smartphones by students in Senior High Schools will be a step in the right direction to curb exam malpractice as there is rarely a final year SHS 3 boarding student without a mobile phone.
