NPP Launched Welfare Package For Its Grassroots

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday inaugurated a welfare fund to motivate the base of the party.

The fund, which will be opened for contributions after a ceremony at the Capital View Hotel in Koforidua, is the brainchild of the NPP Constituency Officers Welfare Group.

According to the Chairman of the NPP Constituency Officers Welfare Group, Dr Godfred Akyea-Darkwah, the fund would also recognise the contributions of the base and reduce the dependency of the party on the government.

Speakers

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP Chairman, Mr Freddie Blay, the NPP General Secretary, Mr John Boadu, and the National Organiser of the Party, Mr Sammy Awuku, have been invited to address the ceremony which would be attended by all 275 constituency chairmen of the party

“After the deliberations on Saturday which will also have regional plenary sessions after the main programme, we expect to come out with a communique on Sunday about the conclusions of the meeting,” Dr Godfred Akyea-Darkwah told the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday .

Contributions

He said after the inauguration of the Welfare Fund, the group would invite contributions from any member of the party.

“We are inaugurating a welfare package for the base of the party, you know NPP we don’t use the term grassroots, we say the base,” Dr Akyea-Darkwah said.

“We need to motivate our base. We cannot dump everything on the government because our party is in power. The government cannot do everything for us, so the constituency officers have agreed to create this welfare scheme which will help to develop our own members and make the party attractive”.

Workshop

He said thereafter there would be workshop as part of the event “which will have all the constituency chairmen and some executive of the party in attendance.

The fund will be contributory, we expect all members of the party to pay because of their love for the party and it will be invested in this country,” he said.
