Press Release: UCC SRC Intervenes In High Hostel Prices On Campus
In the midst of a rapid increase in covid-19 cases and economic hardship, there have been hostel price hikes on the UCC campus. The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) reacting to the worrying development described the drastic increase of campus hostel prices as exploitative and unfair.
The high prices quoted for hostels are the result of the high demand for student accommodation. The (SRC) has promised to work hard to get appropriate authorities to address the situation.
“The SRC and local NUGS executives have visited several hostels and interacted with students for a better understanding of the situation on grounds and believe is a clear case of exploitation,” was stated in a release by the SRC
The statement was issued on July 26 and copied to Ghanaeducation.org indicated the SRC has commenced discussions on the issue with the Management of the University of Cape Coast to reach a consensus with the hostel managers.
“The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Management has been called to expand affordable housing options on campus in order to reduce these occurrences,” the SRC release said.
Prospective students of UCC have been urged to remain calm and be rest assured that the Students Representative Council (SRC) will work tirelessly and hand in hand with the Management to bring the situation under control.
