Minister For Education Sends Message To 2022 WASSCE Candidates
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum following the impending conduct of this year’s WAEC international examination has urged all candidates preparing to sit for the 2022 WASSCE for School to take their studies seriously.
In a short address at an unannounced school visit to Sakafia Islamic Senior High School located at Asokore Mampong on Sunday, May 29, 2022, Mr Adutwum encouraged the final year students to learn hard to excel in the WASSCE.
The Bosomtwe lawmaker during his visit inspected the school’s kitchen and I appreciated the good work of the kitchen staff to ensure that the central government quest for the smooth implementation of the flagship Free SHS program.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum also joined the students for breakfast. Afterwards, he moved to the science laboratory of the Asokore Mampong-based SHS to inspect the new laboratory equipment recently supplied to the school.
As part of the Akufo-Addo led government effort to improve the academic performance of Free SHS beneficiaries, Dr Yaw also used the opportunity to monitor the equipment being used to support teaching and learning in the school.
In a related development, Mr Osei Yaw following the unsatisfactory performance of candidates who sat for 2021 WASSCE for School in some subjects has vowed to improve the pass rate for WASSCE mathematics this academic year.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum speaking to the media in Parliament on Thursday said his outfit will investigate the poor performance of the final year students in the WAEC international examination for improvement in 2020.
“Actually the average is 60% certain subjects rate went up, others dipped but if you put in average is still 60%. So if you look at English and Maths, for example, there was a dip but Integrated Science saw a huge jump,” he stated.
The Education Minister furthered that “I want to assure you that Mathematics should not see a dip in my time as somebody who is Mathematician, we are going to look at what went wrong and see what we can do.”
The Teaching Minister assured that increasing the pass rate of WASSCE for School English Language and Mathematics in this academic year will guarantee a higher rate of entry into various public universities in the country.
