Update On Trust Fund Loans For UEW Students – NUGS
In a communique sighted by EducationWeb, the Union said “NUGS President has finalized discussions with the Student loan Trust fund. It’s expected that all students who applied for the loan will be paid latest by Friday, June 3, 2022.”
The announcement comes after the UEW LNUGS Secretary in a petition to the leadership of the National Ghana Students Union (NUGS) said some of the students of the UEW are facing difficulties in paying their school fees.
The Ghana Students Union following the appeal engaged the management of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) under the auspices of the government on the best way they can help the brilliant but needy prospective students.
After several meetings between the leadership of NUGS and the management of the SLTF, an agreement was reached for the affected students of the Education University to be granted loans to settle their academic user fees.
In a related development, the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) says GH¢1 million had been paid to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for deferred students over their inability to settle academic user fees.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Fund, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah in an interview with the Daily Graphic newspaper said his outfit had paid the fees of 500 students who were among 6,000 students who had their courses deferred.
“As of Friday, May 13, 2022, the SLTF had paid GH¢1 million to the KNUST after the students signed an undertaking for the trust fund to pay on their behalf. The money is for their first and second semester fees,” he told the newspaper.
The 500 prospective students according to the Student Loan Trust Fund CEO were among some 2,188 students of the Kumas-based Science and Technology University (KNUST) who applied and were verified by the SLTF for the loans.
“They went further to give their consent by signing an undertaking with the Trust Fund for it to pay the fees on their behalf. We hope that more of them would sign the undertaking for their fees to be paid,” Agyei Yeboah told Graphic.
