There’s this Ghanaian culture that people are hailed only after death. Somewhat, this convention has stayed on.
It’s by this that the 2021 final year event management group of the Department of Theatre Arts, UEW, called ‘ EXPLISEPT EVENT HUB ‘; exactly a year today took to break the norm by honouring some Ghanaian legends in the Creative Arts industry.
Explisept Event Hub consist of seven founding members: Mr. Perez Acheampong (President), Mrs. Bridget Onomah (P. R. O), Miss Eugenia Afatsaw (Secretary), Mr. Isaac Nketsiah (Organizer), Mr. Collins Mintah (Project Coordinator), Miss Rhodaline Koranteng (Publicist), and Mr. Emmanuel Otu (Financial secretary).
They honoured legends like, Okyeame Kwame (Musician), Dr. Faustina Brew (Playwright), and Dr. Johnson Edu (Scenic designer/Special effect makeup artist).
The event featured Seprewa, dance and music performances from the theatre and music department of UEW; and was spiced with a talk by Okyeame Kwame the guest artist.
During an interview with one of the founders Explisept Event Hub as they mark their one year anniversary, made it known that Okyeame Kwame( Mr. Kwame Nsiah-Apau) was chosen among the many for this reason as stated (with a smile)-” I wasn’t even born when he started his music career. He continued, and he is still active in the industry when his contemporaries are fading.
The rap doctor is one of the most versatile musicians in the country and has a very solid brand. This is evident in the ambassadorial roles he is playing. Okyeame Kwame does not only do music, but he is also into stage plays which is annually produced at the National Theatre of Ghana. Recently, he participated in Nationwide Radio drama tour.
This is a man who sometimes uses his social media platforms to promote young and upcoming artist (e)s”. For the aforementioned and many other things unsaid, the rap surgeon who aesthetically dissect and stitches therapeutic compositions, his music, like him, never gets old; with versatility as his perfumatory trademark, we decided to acknowledge the Kumasi Anglican S. H. S old boy for the good path he has paved, and still paving for the Creative Arts industry”.
Later in that year, CELEGENDS’ Set was adjudged THE BEST SCENIC DESIGN PROJECT OF THE YEAR and THE SPECTACULAR EVENT PROJECT OF THE YEAR all by EMC ACADEMY, an award giving organization under the Department of Theatre Arts, UEW.
As we remember this initiative today, it’s paramount to keep in mind that our legends should be honoured whilst they are alive.
Anticipate for another mega event from this group.
