The Takoradi zone inter colleges football ball competition begun on Monday. Takoradi Senior High School was the school to beat until Sankor SHS to end their winning streak with 1-0 yesterday. The day’s competition concluded with the biggest battle in Takoradi zonal SHS football; the match between GSTS and St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS.
This was predicted to be a cracker and surely it was, but it is the GSTS boys that were made the nut.
As expected, before the match, the euphoria was very high as the two sides’ supporters’ made the stadium shook! The atmosphere was very electrifying but things went deadly silence when the commencement whistle was blown by the referee. Both sides dominated play; with GSTS having two goal scoring opportunities at the early embers of the game.
The stadium was ushered back to the mood before the kick-off, but this time completely controlled by the Mariscans when on the 29th minute their player struck the camel’s back to metamorphose the scoreline to 1-0 in their favour.
The atmosphere resumed to normal as the game proceeded. With Mary’s dictating the pace of the game, GSTS players didn’t throw in the towel either. They were like wounded soldiers that are almost close to their camp.
They fought on with all the energy left in them, and this violently shut the mouth of MARISCO supporters though they were leading. The first half ended with Mary’s 1-0 GSTS. The second half begun, GSTS full of Hope did all they can to turn the mood of play in their favour, whilst Mary’s tried to finish them off completely. Both sides didn’t get what they want, but at the end of the game, the children of Mary could not be defied! Mary’s 1-0 GSTS.
