SHADRACK ESSILFUL GHUNNEY SWORN IN AS COMSSA- UPSA PRESIDENT FOR THE 2024/2025 ACADEMIC YEAR.
On Thursday, July 4, 2024, Shadrack Essilful Ghunney was officially sworn -in as the President of the Communication Studies Students Association (ComSSA) ,under the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra during the handing-over ceremony at the university’s premises, which marked the celebration of new chapter in the academic journey .
The ceremony recognized the presence of distinguished Faculty members, Staff, Course representatives, and students in the Department of Communication Studies, reflecting on the principles and values that guides the operations of the Department and the Association; a commitment to excellence, innovation, the pursuit of knowledge, integrity, and fostering of exemplary leadership.
The event started with an opening prayer by the immediate past Speaker (Solomon Nartey) of the ComSSA General Assembly for 2023/2024 administration, followed by the purpose of gathering by the Head of Department, Dr. Adwoa Sikayena Amankwah, emphasizing on utilization of leadership role on campus to build yourself and preparedness to make an impact in the society later in future. This was proceeded by other solidarity messages from the Patron of the Association (Dr. Justice Issah Abudulai), the Department Officer (Mr. Simon Dziwornu Jnr.) and other Faculty Officers emphasizing on team work, commitment, innovations, and better achievements in leadership.
The major eye saw of the ceremony was the swearing- in of the newly elected Executives of which the elected President ( Shadrack Essilful Ghunney) was called upon first with the Vice President elect (Brian Nkansah) to take their oath of commitment to the service of the Students Association (ComSSA) and the Department, followed by other elected Executives and appointees to take their oath of dedication and commitment in supporting the President and his Vice in carrying out the mandate to contribute to the success of ComSSA and the Department . This formal process was a moment of making an assurance and commitment of following the values and principles that comes with the leadership role.
The outgoing ComSSA-UPSA President, Ireland Ashitey Tetteh then deliverd his final speech, reflecting on some of the achievements and incredible performance by his administration being led together by his Vice President (Emmanuel Fifii Sampson) and their accompanied of dedicated Executives, which the newly sworn in President of ComSSA-UPSA, Shadrack Essilful Ghunney played a significant role as the Organizer in making it a success. He further continue his speech by expressing his gratitude to everyone who supported his administration and finally extended his well wishes to the incoming Executives.
The newly sworn-in President of the Communication Studies Students Association (ComSSA-UPSA), H.E Shadrack Essilful Ghunney, also mounted the stage to deliver his acceptance speech, showing his humility and honor to accept such responsibility to serve. He highlighted on few things his administration will take keen interest in, which are;
- Capacity building of the students in the Association and the Department, by providing them with soft skills through training on graphic designing, public speaking, content development, digital marketing and other variety of topics aligning with their chosen programmes to equip the students for the job market, set them apart from the thousands of students graduates produced into the job market every year, and enable them to navigate in the competitive and evolving technological world.
- Recognition, he also emphasized on his administration awarding , recognizing , and honoring the achievements , creativity, innovation, leadership, and unique talents by the students of ComSSA , the sacrifices by the Faculty members in raising academic icons , and the significant roles played by the Course Representatives in making sure their respective classes are in order for smooth academic processes.
- Partnership and Collaboration with industry experts, leaders, organizations ,and individuals to initiate and execute programs and merging ideas together to build the Association , and the students with skills and industry knowledge for the better future envisioned for the Association , the Department ,UPSA , Ghana and beyond.
He also continued his speech by expressing his kind appreciation to everyone who supported his journey to the ComSSA Presidency and his UPSA journey, most especially to the Almighty God, for his mercy and guidance to lead this noble Association, Faculty members, his family, Course Representatives, his course mates, mentors, and the entire ComSSA and UPSA students.
H.E Shadrack , in conclusion of his speech encouraged the his fellow incoming Executives by saying “I would like to encourage the incoming Executives to reflect on the incredible performance of the past administration who were dedicated and committed to the work and the mission at hand, as a challenge , which should always put you on your toes as Executives with huge responsibility and also to serve as a reminder to work hard, sacrifice , and contribute to the success of this Administration ( The Shadrack-Brian Led) , with your best of knowledge , innovations, ideas, creativity, and resources to raise another bar of success for this Association”.
He made it a point clear that, he believes in collective work and inclusive leadership by collaborating with all students and individuals with innovating ideas, skills, knowledge, and resources that can contribute to the success of his administration, to feel welcomed and valued to come on board.
He ended by saying that “for one thing he knows, is that, “NyameTease” and his administration shall accomplish this mission successfully.
The ceremony was climaxed with the presentation of citations to Faculty members and outgoing Executives for their dedication to the success of the 2023/2024 administration, certificate of service to the Course representatives for their outstanding support to the immediate past administration, and finally a closing prayer was said by the outgoing Women’s Commissioner of ComSSA to close the ceremony.
