The coaches are the causes for problems in Black Stars – Stephen Appiah
Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has admitted that players sometimes portray themselves as bigger than the coaches because they earn more than the coaches.
owever, he added that he would blame the coaches for making this possible instead of the players.
Appiah made these comments when he appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee looking into the petition presented by the leaders of the Save Ghana Football Demonstrators back in February.
When asked on Wednesday if players see themselves as bigger than the coaches, he said, “I think at times, some of these things [players seeing themselves as bigger than the coach] happen.”
“But I won’t blame the players; I would rather blame the coaches because, at the end of the day, you are the boss.
“So you can decide not to play Ronaldo; he can say anything. He will get upset, but at the end of the day, if they decide, “I’m not playing you,” you can’t do anything.
“So when players think that they are beyond you, the coach, you have to take certain drastic decisions. Yes, I was then a player; today I’m a coach, so it’s two different things.
“So I’m not a player in a way that you can compare yourself to say you are better than me. I’m a coach. So you have to respect that.”
