They clarified that Alhaji Khalifa is not the head of the Abu Banda family and that the unauthorized funeral at the State House was not arranged by either the State or the family.
Alhaji Mohammad Abu Banda, the head of the Abu Banda family and the Chief of Banda in the Ashanti Region, made this announcement during a press conference in Accra on Tuesday.
He stated, “I want to make it clear that this unauthorized funeral at the State House does not have the support of the State or the family.
On behalf of the entire family, we are disassociating ourselves from this unauthorized event.”
Alhaji Abu Banda urged the public to ignore the unauthorized funeral organized by Alhaji Abdullah Khalifa, emphasizing that he is not a member of the Abu Banda family.
“My primary responsibility as the head of this family is to ensure we adhere to our religious practices. This is what my late elder brother expected of me, and I know it is what he would have wanted,” he said.
He invited anyone wishing to attend the 40-day funeral service for Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda to join them on Thursday, April 10, at 10:00 AM at his mosque in the airport residential area.
The service will be led in prayer by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, and the Quran will be recited, he added.
The late Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda passed away on March 1, 2025, and was buried in his mosque as per his wishes. The family head noted, “My brother expressed his desire to be buried here in the mosque he built in honor of his beloved religion.
He also requested that we prepare a mausoleum for two, so that when the time comes, his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Cassandra Asoma Banda, who shared his faith, can be laid to rest beside him.”
Alhaji Abu Banda expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, for their support in laying the late Asoma Abu Banda to rest.
